Ogawa-machi is surrounded by low mountains, so there are some hiking trails. You can also take a walk while looking at the old-fashioned streets and streams, and soak up the leasurely atmosphere. Let me introduce a couple of trails.
Hiking
Most of the trails around Ogawa-machi’s mountains are short, and all of them can be completed in less than half a day. As a result, there are many roads except trails, so be careful not to take the wrong road.
In the mountains around Ogawa-machi, you can climb all year round, but watch your step the day after it snows. And in summer it’s so hot and humid that you are careful of heat stroke.
There are also pests such as bees, horseflies, and centipedes, so it is recommended to carry insect repellent spray and insect bite medicine. Keep on the trail to avoid poisonous snakes in bush.
The Saitama Prefectural Police recommends submitting a climbing notification. You can submit it on line at the site of the Saitama Prefectural Police, or download it at same site. But all of them are in Japanese only. I have translated the format into English below, so please download it and use it if you like. You can fill out and submit it to the Ogawa Police Station, or the box at the trailhead.
