Traditions


Ogawa-machi is an old town that has a lot of traditions.

You can see Japaness in every corner of the town.

Wa-shi

Wa-shi means a traditional Japanese paper. Ogawa-machi is known as the production area of Hosokawa-shi, one of traditional Wa-shi. There are several Japanese paper workshops in the town, and you can also experience making paper.

Sake

Sake means a Japanese liquor made from rice.

There are three brewerise in Ogawa-machi.

There you can visit the brewery and taste sake.

Architecture

Many old-fashioned buildings remain and are still in use.

Traditional residential built in Edo era.

Festival

The Tanabata Festival is held on the fourth weekend in July. Gorgeous decorations are made of Japanese paper, a local specialty.
